Despite the wet and windy weather here of late it is starting to feel as though spring may be on its way.
The main reason for this is because we had our first lamb on the farm the other day.
He is a little character and full of bouncing beans in that cute spring lamb kinda way. Just a few hundred more to come over the next few months.
On the flower front there's not much happening other that trying to hold myself back from sowing seed too early. Over the years I have learnt that it's best to wait until mid February before sowing things such as nicotiana, snapdragons, scabious and ammi. Any sooner and I just end up with very leggy weak seedlings - for the sake of waiting a couple of weeks the seedlings come up far stronger. I think it must be the light levels.
So for now I must try and curb my seed sowing enthusiasm, be patient and sit back and dream of flowery summer filled days. Oh and keep an eye on a few hundred ewes in the fields and lambing shed. So much for sitting back, the next few months are going to be busy round here.
